Description:
When workbench is first loaded it says "search_sidebar.png" cannot be found. Closeout of that and workbench shows up normal. After entering the password prompt says "MySQL has encountered a problem" and underneath "parameter is not valid."

I am entering the right password. If I close the bug prompt I can not try to click on DB again or try a new password. Have to force close workbench.

Thank you for the report.
How did you install MySQL Workbench? I suspect that somehow the image file "<path to WB installation>\images\ui\search_sidebar.png" has been dropped and it is causing problem.

Alternatively, you can download latest mysql-workbench from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/ and let us know if it still reports the issue.

I had the same symptoms.  Documenting steps and fix here for others:

1. Update MySQL Server & Workbench (minor update from 8.0.X to 8.0.22).
2. Restart MySQL Workbench
3. Auto Windows update (forced update)
4. Start MySQL Workbench -> resulting in error

To fix the issue, I simply used MySQL Installer to uninstall and reinstall MySQL Workbench, and it resolved the issue.
