Description:
I downloaded the newest version of mysql, restarted my computer and attempted to connect to the local instance listed on the mysql workbench welcome. I recieved the error: 
"MySQL WOrkbench has encountered a problem
parameter is not valid
We are sorry for the inconvience but an unexpected exception has been raised by one of the MySQL Workbench modules. In order to fix this issue we would kindly ask you to file a bug report..."

How to repeat:
Check for updates and go through updating latest version of mysql. Restart computer and try to click on local instance when logging back in.

Imho this is duplicate of Bug #99285, please see Bug #99285 and follow the suggested fix.
