Description:
Hi,

All of our MySQL Server servers are Windows Server 2012 R2, and each server I have tested upgrading MySQL Workbench to 6.3.9 displays an info icon upon starting Workbench: "Unsupported Operating System: You are running Workbench on an unsupported operating system. While it may work for you just fine, it wasn't designed to run on your platform...". I do not see anywhere in the documentation for Workbench that says that Windows Server 2012 R2 is not compatible with 6.3.9. The prereq's are installed (.net 4.5, Vis. C++ 2015 Redist.)... all previous versions of Workbench 6.3.8 and earlier work fine and do not present the info icon. Please advise.

Thanks,
Marc

How to repeat:
Install MySQL Workbench 6.3.9 to Windows Server 2012 R2 server.

Thank you for the screenshot, could you please upload unaltered WB log file for our further investigations? Log file location details are in https://dev.mysql.com/doc/workbench/en/wb-configuring-files.html

I can confirm that 2012 is a supported platform and even mentioned here https://www.mysql.com/support/supportedplatforms/workbench.html

I uploaded wb.1.log file, I believe this is the correct one for when I had 6.3.9 installed. I have since uninstalled 6.3.9 and installed 6.3.8.

Hi,

Were you able to verify with the developers? What I'm needing to know at this point is- is it safe to use version 6.3.9 Workbench with Windows Server 2012 R2? Can the warning message be disregarded and am I to assume that Workbench should function normally?

Thanks,
Marc

Just looking for an update to this issue; please see my previous comment.

Hi Marc Long,

I couldn't comment earlier because bug has been already confirmed by development and it is being prioritized for the fix. Having said that, you can ignore the warnings and continue to use WB on Windows 2012 Server which is among the supported platforms of WB - https://www.mysql.com/support/supportedplatforms/workbench.html

Once the issue is fixed, change log will have further details regarding this.

Thanks,
Umesh

Fixed as of the upcoming MySQL Workbench 8.0.12 release, and here's the changelog entry:

A message displayed during the startup sequence indicated that some valid
operating systems were unsupported. For current platform information, see
https://www.mysql.com/support/supportedplatforms/workbench.html.

Thank you for the bug report.

Hi:

As of 11/21/2018 my system is experiencing the "Unsupported Operating System" message bug. I had just upgraded to the latest MySQLWorkbench 8.0.13, and that is when the message started appearing. All the related MySQL software is the latest and is the Community release. I am running Windows 8.1 Professional with all the current fixes.

Additional question, thus using this mySql would affect or have future issues with my database even though workbench is unsupported?

MySQL Workbench 8.0 is the current major release, and is recommended for MySQL Server 8.0, 5.7, 5.6.

MySQL Workbench 8.0:
— Supported Platforms: https://www.mysql.com/support/supportedplatforms/workbench.html
— Download: https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/

If you are using an older platform, try the previous MySQL Workbench 6.3:
— Download MySQL Workbench 6.3 https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/6.3.html
