Description:
I'm baffled as to why such a good program doesn't have something as simple as a dark theme option. Every other piece of software I use for work and rec use has this feature. I've seen threads dating back to 2010 requesting this feature and it's still not implemented? So upsetting...

How to repeat:

What OS? Also, doesn't setting the control/window colors from system preferences enough?
[18 Dec 2013 10:48] Eugene osnivschi

Required to change both gui and editor area

Thanks.

Why was this ticket suspended due to "no feedback"? Eugene osnivschi clearly specified the OS. Workbench is literally the only development tool I'm using that does not have a dark theme.

Please implement and thank you for your efforts.

The white theme is really tiring when you have to look at the screen for many hours, and since the other editors I use have dark themes, changing between them really affects my eyesight...

Windows here, Workbench version: 6.3.4.0

About the available options to change colors:
Edit / Preferences / Appearence / Color Presets and Fonts & Colors

These are not enough. The feature being requested it's a theme. Meaning a combo bos, list or other mean to choose a representative name of a group of predefined colors to be applied to the UI and editor. Example: Select the theme named: Chocula from a list. The colors are changed instantly.

This is not at present possible in MySQL Workbench.

Thanks!

Thank you for feature request.

I decided to switch to dbForge Studio, because of that.

I can't believe that this request was filed in 2013 and here it is *six years* later, and *still* there has been zero movement toward making this most basic of features a reality?

Please update the UI to include a Dark Theme... Pretty please! This white background kills my eyes.

Going to look for a different editor.

I would also really appreciate dark theme. My eyes can not handle the white, and though I like the program, I am probably going to move over to toad.

Closing this feature request because MySQL Workbench is a native application, which behaves properly depending on what is set for the OS it runs on. Please understand that there's no way to adjust standard controls colors like window backgrounds, scrollbars, comboboxes etc. in the application itself. Instead use the abilities of your operating system to change the theming. All supported OSes (macOS, Windows and Linux with Gnome) have the ability to adjust the appearance of applications for your personal preference.

The only customization you can do is syntax highlighting colors used for SQL editors, as they are not controlled by the OS.

Hello!

Nowadays, Windows 10 has the ability to turn everything into Dark Mode, so, why still MySQL WB can't do it?
*Windows 10 doesn't even appear as an option for default themes.

Is there any plan to have the dark theme for Win 10 available with a new release in 2021 ? Thank you.

i'm not sure why the dev closed this request, but I think it should be reopened. I am on the latest version half way through 2021 and this program is still blindingly white when i open it. I have windows 10 and it is set to dark mode but this program does not go dark. I have seen the screen shots of this program on a mac with dark mode and it looks beautiful so why not windows?
[28 Aug 2021 12:25] Troodon Formosus
I confirm that on Windows 10, trying to enable a dark theme in Workbench 8.0.26 using Edit | Preferences | Fonts & Colors | Color Scheme | Select your scheme | System Default does not work.

Just a day shy of 8 years since this was opened and this still isn't a thing for Windows 10 and listed as won't fix?? What gives?
[15 Oct 2021 4:37] Jahin Z.
It's been wayyy too long; macOS and Linux have this feature but for some reason it's not on Windows for some reason.

So, why the status of this feature request is won't fix?

Well, I believe it's clearly stated, it follows OS settings.

The problem is that it doesn't.
Most likely most of you want to have dark theme with os setting, but the devs thought all these reports are strictly for overwriting os settings.

Although it's mainly for win11, win10 is mentioned in this bug report: Bug #106650

I believe they noticed the bug, as after it was in the state of analyzing for a day, it has an assignee and it's still open. Someday hopefully we'll have dark mode.
(I hope they won't close it without fixing this issue)

MY EYES!
MY EYES!!!

I would apply for a job here, just to fix this. I mean how long has it been? Maybe you guys are trying to break a record or something 😂

2023, still no dark mode available. I just got into software development. I am going through a bootcamp and like many I like to stay up into the wee hours of the morning typing code. Every assignment I have that involves SQL is a horror. I feel like I am being hit with a flashbang every time I open it. It's crazy to me that this has been a thread for this many years and it's still an issue. Especially when as many (over the last several years) have said; it's is the only dev tool I have seen with no dark mode.

I've created an Oracle account just to post on this. I'm flabbergasted why they can't ship this feature to Windows (even though they've already done this for Mac). wtf.
