Description:
When we connect to MySQL Instances with Workbench 8.0.13, it seems still connecting with utf8.

https://dev.mysql.com/doc/relnotes/workbench/en/wb-news-8-0-12.html

MySQL Workbench now uses utf8mb4 as the connection and client character set, replacing utf8mb3.

How to repeat:
■ session variable
 show variables like '%char%';

'character_set_client', 'utf8'

■ global variable
show global variables like 'character_set_client';

'character_set_client', 'utf8mb4'

Suggested fix:
"show variables like '%char%'" should be utf8mb4,

Hi Umesh,

Thank you for your quick confirmation as always.
I thought it is workbench side configuration though...

Best Regards
Shinya

Fixed as of the upcoming MySQL Workbench 8.0.18 release, and here's the changelog entry:

Connections made to 5.6 and 5.7 server instances defaulted to the utf8
character set, instead of utf8mb4.

Thank you for the bug report.
