[9 Jun 2017 8:39] Tim De Cremer
Description:
When installing the latest version of the Mysql for Excel addon, when opening a stanard excel workbook, excel will open the workbook and a new, empty workbook. (new instance of excel)
When this addon is uninstalled, the behavior is normal again. (opening only the requested sheet, without creating a new workbook)

How to repeat:
Install the addon version 1.3.7.
Open a random excel workbook.
The workbook will be opened + a new instance of excel will be opened with an empty excel sheet.

Suggested fix:
Uninstall the mysql for excel addon version 1.3.7

Thank you for the report.

I also have this issue. Some additional information:

1. Just launching Excel 2016 from a desktop icon will open a Book1 workbook

2. Disabling the MySQL for Excel add-in also resolves the issue (rather than uninstalling it)

FYI, in an attempt to resolve this issue I also deleted all book1.xls files from the STARTUP folders listed under Trusted Locations in Excel options menu.

This is a real inconvenience as this default workbook always prompts to be saved when you try to close it. So not only does it clutter up the desktop, it requires several steps to get rid of it. Also, disabling the add-in is inconvenient because I'll have to remember to enable it every time I want to use it.

One additional comment since I noticed the original bug was posted under MS Windows 7 64 bit - I am running MS Windows 10 64 bit and Excel 2016 32 bit.

I am using Windows 10 64bit and Office 2016 64bit having the same issue.

Anyone know how to disable the add-in instead of uninstalling it?
[30 Oct 2017 12:56] Scott Kaszyk
To disable the add in instead of uninstalling it, from Excel go to File > Options > Add-ins > Manage: COM Add-ins

Then deselect the MySQL For Excel Addin-ins and click OK.

but how to solve this problem, if i need to use mysql plugin for excel.

If you're running Windows 10 you may have to start Excel as an Administrator to disable the plugin.

I have the same issue in Excel 2010. Disabling the plugin is not a good solution for me. Do you know when is this bug likely to be handled?
Thank you.

So when we will have a solution for this issue? it was reported on Jun of 2017 and we still does not have any feedback. Thanks!

I am increasing the severity of this bug (which was reported as a Sev. 3 originally).
This will be fixed in the next version of the product.
We can't disclose any release dates, but you can subscribe to this bug report to know when the bug changes status.

This bug still exists over a year later.
Closing out the extra excel file which prompts for saving the empty workbook is multiple tedious clicks every time someone uses excel.
Disabling and re-enabling excel add-in MySQL for excel is also tedious.

Is there a work-a-round for this issue?
[2 Jul 2018 18:46] Kao Vue
This bug occurs with MySQL 1.3.7 on Windows 10-64bit with Office 2010.
Also occurs on Windows 7-64bit with Office 2010.
Does not occur on 1.3.6 but that release does not append(import) dates correctly to tables. So this is not an option.

Excel 2010 32 bit on Windows 7 64 bit
Apparently everything work keeping plugin "MySQL For Excel" disabled on startup

Having every user complain when we've installed the MySQL Add-on, with nothing to help them, is costing our department reputational damage. This issue seems to have been open a very long time; it looks like it has not been taken seriously. Please can a fix be prioritised?
[1 Oct 2018 15:23] Javier Treviño
This bug will be fixed in the next version, it's prioritized already.
[17 Oct 2018 5:47] Christo van Rooyen
Hi,

When is the new version, that will fix this issue, going to be available?

This really is annoying.
[19 Oct 2018 12:25] nigel Roth
Still not fixed!
[18 Dec 2018 4:47] Javier Treviño
Fixed a bug where MySQL for Excel was creating a new blank workbook in the
scenario where a Workbook is being opened, so by the time the add-in loads
the application's active workbook has not been yet defined.

Version 1.3.8 will contain the bug fix, but because of company policies I can't disclose a release date. We are working to do a release early in 2019.

Fixed over 3 months ago, yet no release yet. This is not being taken seriously. Originally reported in 2017. This affects my team multiple times a day.
[9 May 2019 14:51] Marco Curto
Hi Guys.
This issue impacts my team everyday too, because we usually open Excel app many times a day.
Please, when does the version 1.3.8 will be launched?
Thank in advance.
Best regards.

A new version (1.3.8) that fixes this, and other, bug report(s) is soon to be released.
We cannot disclose release dates, but I can only say it will be very soon.
[24 May 2019 22:38] Christine Cole
Fixed as of the upcoming MySQL for Excel 1.3.8 release, and here's the changelog entry:

When an existing workbook was opened, a second (blank) workbook instance was
also opened.

Thank you for the bug report.
[19 Jun 2019 16:51] Marco Curto
Hi Guys.
It worked for me and my team, both using Windows 10 Pro 64 Bits, ver 1809.
Thank you for your support!
[16 Jul 2019 18:07] gerardo rojas
Thanks. I was sick of having 2 excel spreadsheets open.
