Description:
In MS Excel 2013 or 2016, when the MySQL for Excel COM Add-in is enabled and a user clicks an exiting Excel file (shortcut) to open, it generates an additional, blank workbook prior to opening the selected Excel file. If the COM Add-in is disabled, and the file opening process is repeated the additional blank workbook does not open.

This does not occur when simply opening an initial Excel instance or additional Excel files when an instance is already opened. It appears to only occur once and when a file is opened from a shortcut (aka Desktop, folder or from recents list).

It also labels the additional workbook as "Sheet1" whereas if Excel is opened, then a file is opened, that first workbook is labeled as "Book1". Slight difference but a difference.

How to repeat:
To replicate error, open Excel, go to File -> Options -> Add-ins -> Manage: select "COM Add-ins" from the dropdown list then click "Go..."

From the list, select or check the "MySQL for Excel" add-in, click "Ok", then close Excel. Open an Excel file and the additional blank workbook will appear.

Suggested fix:
Unable to locate a preference setting or configuration that calls out specifically to open a blank workbook upon file opening.

Has anyone determined if there is a workaround besides uninstalling or disabling the addin?

as at 2018-04-15, still not fixed for v1.3.7, win 8.1, excel 2010, but v1.3.6 does work

1.3.7 opens a blank workbook on Windows 7 using Excel 2010.
