The problem doesn't happen when type backpacks, it's the same behavior with quotes and single-quotes. As we can't use the visual sql editor, I believe that Severity is critical.

This has also been reported in the WB forum, but actually I do not see this problem: https://forums.mysql.com/read.php?152,655315,655498#msg-655498. Check the animation at http://pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=113044 (taken from the current 6.3.9 CE release for macOS). What are we doing differently?

I've got the same build of workbench. When I do the same test, I get the " and the ', but not the ` or ´. I.E, when I try to repeat what's in the animation, I get: """ '''

These are socalled dead chars, as they can be used to create accented input. What happens when you press ` followed by a (which should give you à, small letter with grave). Similar for i, e, o and u. What happens when you press space after typing `. That should give you the pure backtick then.

This is what I do. I type a backtick followed by a space. But the behaviour is similar wether I hit the space-key or any letter key, the backtick doesn't show.

After some tests, i think there is a bug in MySQL Workbench and some keyboard layouts on macOS Sierra 10.12.3. My default language is Português (Brasil) and default keyboard layout is EUA Internacional - PC. All applications understand quotes and backticks with this layout (ex.: Word). When i use MySQL Workbench, quotes and backsticks don´t appear, but when i change the keyboard layout to Brasileiro (Brazilian), quotes and backticks appear on MySQL Workbench. With this layout (Brasileiro) all other applications doesn´t understand the correct accentuation (ex.: Word). I recorded this test and published on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4P58W9f_bs

I have the same problem, and the bug is very annoying. One possible workaround is to type the backticks or quotation marks in some text editor, then copy and paste it with command-c and command-v in workbench, but it would be a lot better to see this bug solved.

Any chances to get it fixed in the next version? MySQL 6.3.10 has been released and I can't find any mention of this issue in the change log. I know it is set as non-critical, but it is almost impossible to work using the tool daily, since the workaround is really annoying and time consuming. Did anybody else find a workaround?

Funny that it is classified as "Non-critical". Anyway, if you hold CTRL+" and CTRL+' it works. Maybe a better way than copy+paste these characters.

Unfortunately no, holding CTRL+" and CTRL+' doesn't work - at least not with a QWERTZ (Swiss French) keyboard on a MacBook Pro under Mac OS 10.11.6

Posted by developer: *Verified in:* OSX 10.13 MySQL server 5.7.20 MySQL Server 8.0.4 MySQL WB 8.0 Build: 12596179 This bug is not related to WB. The problem appears if you use the proper key combination and can be reproduced in the MacOS note pad also: 1. Open the note pad. 2. Show the keyboard viewer (Spanish ISO) 3. Press the "back tick" key in the virtual keyboard (Between the "P" and "+" keys) 4. Press and hold the "AltGr" key in the physical keyboard (I do not have a mac keyboard) and then click the "back tick" key in the virtual keyboard twice. Result: Blank spaces after the first character
