Description:
Per the documentation, to update the MySQL time zone data on systems that do not have their own zoneinfo data (such as Windows) requires downloading and installing the Time Zone Description tables from here:
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/timezones.html

However, the last version available on this page is 2011n.

How to repeat:
Look at the version number on http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/timezones.html

Look at the current version number on http://www.iana.org/time-zones

Suggested fix:
It is very important that time zone data can be updated. This pages should be continuously updated with data from the IANA time zone database:
http://www.iana.org/time-zones

The current version (as of reporting this bug) is 2014i.

A MySQL maintainer should be subscribed to the announcements list to receive notification of new releases. A corresponding update should be published within a reasonable timeframe.

If this is already happening somewhere, it is not reflected on the website or in the documentation.

Will there be an update of the time zone description tables in the near future?

Time zone description tables are updated now.

Packages of the same can be downloaded from the link,

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/timezones.html

Current tzdb version is now 2015e, but only 2015a is available on the mysql site.

As mentioned in the original issue, it's important that a MySQL maintainer is subscribed to the IANA time zone announcements list to receive notification of new releases. A corresponding update should be published within a reasonable timeframe.

This needs to be a regular process. Otherwise, it will continue to grow stale as new time zone updates are released often.
