Description:
When i type some query and don't click in a suggestion of autocomplete feature, the window doesn't disappear, and can't be closed anymore. Just closing the Workbench and opening again.

How to repeat:
Start writing a query and ignore autocomplete. The autocomplete window will not close.

Suggested fix:
A button with a close option over autocomplete suggestions or ESC button function properly to close this window.

I have been unable to verify this yet with Mac OSX 10.8.2 and WB 5.2.45.

Marcelo, does pressing ESC not work in closing the auto-suggest dropdown? How about closing the SQL editor tab?

If you could provide a screenshot and a test case, that would be appreciated.

I sent the image bug, it doesn't happen all the time. A example is write select * from, then erase all the query quickly using backspace, usually this problem happen and to close the window i need to quit workbench. I hope this comment and image helps. Thanks! Happy New Year! :)

An existing workaround should be to disable the automatic code completion, via

MySQL Workbench (menu) -> Preferences -> SQL Editor -> deselect Automatically Start Code Completion

I could not repeat on Mac OS X (10.8.2) too.

It happens often, i disabled autocomplete to keep working. If you want, we can make an remote access to show you this bug. If useful, I'm using a Mac OSX 10.8.2, 2.5GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 in 1920x1080 monitor. See ya! :)

This bug still happen on 5.2.47 version.

I see this problem too, quite often. It appears to be a race-condition with the autocomplete painting and quickly doing something else that would normally cause the autocomplete to be deactivated/removed.

While _reliably_ replicating this is difficult, it can certainly be accomplished by typing, pausing shortly, and then hitting backspace.

I'll attach some of my screen-shots.

Happens in Workbench v. 6.0 as well.

I have the exact same problem happening quite frequently. I'm on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.5, and using MySQL Workbench 6.0.6.11184.

I, too, have only been able to solve the issue by quitting Workbench and relaunching it.

I do think that disabling auto-complete would solve it, but I'd rather not do that.

The bug still occurs in version 6.0.7 in OSX 10.9 and is very uncomfortable have to restart Workbench every time because the autocomplete cannot be closed. This error happen since 5.2 version and looks like the workbench team are not paying enough attention to this hassle error.

The hint overlay is the "top" layer so it even shows as I'm typing this bug... (see the screenshot).

Basically makes this product unusable
[24 Apr 2014 11:20] Amir Sobhi
as per previous users.... please fix this as this product is unsuable without it

The product is not "unusable" in any way, but the bug is still annoying. I have it too.

Usually it can be alleviated by going back into the workbench and finishing the autocomplete, but sometimes it sticks around until the workbench is terminated.

I think the product IS unusable once the issue occurs.

While this crash occurs every time, the product is unusable, indeed.
[23 Jun 2015 15:11] Douglas Davis
I was one of the people reporting this problem, but it's worth noting that I have not had this problem occur since upgrading to MySQL Workbench 6.0 on my Mac.

This bug was noted as having been fixed in the 6.0 release, and that does, indeed, appear to be the case for me.
