Description:
I keep getting the error 'External component has thrown an exception' when I try to open a mysql dump file and nothing will work unless I shut the Workbench down and restart.

How to repeat:
Attempt to open a mysql dump file

Suggested fix:
This is quite a large file, perhaps increasing the memory size or splitting the file into smaller pieces.

Please, send the output of Help > System Info from your Workbench. How large was the file?

The file is 120MB and the first thing I get when I try to open it is a dialog saying 'Inconsistent Line Endings' to which I selected the default option of CR+LF (I have tried to open this with the other options selected with no change)

Then after less than a minute I get the dialog

MySQL Workbench has encountered a problem

External component has thrown an exception

We are sorry for the inconvenience but an unexpected exception has been raised by one of the MySQL Workbench modules. In order to fix this issue we would kindly ask you to file a bug report.

The file its self is open and visible behind this notice. Then when I close the notice I cannot click anything else without the notice being redisplayed, including being able to close down MySQL Workbench.

Please, check if the same problem still happens with a newer version, 5.2.40.
[1 Jun 2012 11:31] Sarah Reynolds
I have now updated my version of MySQL Workbench to 5.2.40 and now I get an "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown" message instead.

Then this is a duplicate of Bug #55312.
