Description:
was trying to setup a new server instance and at DB test connection recieved error "Attemptedto read or write protected memory

How to repeat:
setup new connection
leave settings for local host. click next

What exact version of MySQL Workbench, 5.2.x, do you use? Do you have a Windows service defined for the MySQL server you are trying to work with?

OK, this is the Workbench version. Now, you start Workbench and try to add server instance, right? What version of MySQL server is it? Is it running on localhost or on some other machine?

Local host, but i've installed MySQL Community Server 5.5.9

So, you do not have Windows service created/running for your MySQL server (if you gave it some unusual name, please, correct me). Then this looks like a known bug, Bug #59578.
