What version of Connector/ODBC are you using ? The current release 3.51.9 already fixed that error message reported for earlier releases.

I am having the exact same problem. I tried installing 51.9 version of the ODBC connector, and the install seems to go OK. I am using Windows XP Pro with the latest version of MySQL. When I go back into the installer, I can uninstall, but when I try to modify or repair the installation, I get "Internal Error 2727: INSTALLDIR". I think this is slightly different than bug 3668, because that one would fail on installing an upgrade, this one does not. It fails on modify and repair.
