Description:
I've installed MySQL, MySQLStartupitem and also double clicked the MYSQL.prefpane icon.
So in my Preferences I see the 'MySQL' icon.
But I cannot start/stop the server from there, I can only manually start up the server using

sudo /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe --user=mysql

If I do so, the MySQL prefpane sees that the server is running, but I cannot stop it. I also cannot start it if it were not running.

What am I missing here

How to repeat:
Install MySQL, install MySQLStartupitem and the MYSQL.prefpane. Go to your preferences and try to start the MySQL server. It doesn't work (at least not for me).

I partially fixed the problem with this:

sudo mv /usr/local/MySQLCOM/ /Library/StartupItems/

Now, my MySQL server starts up when OS X starts.
The MySQL preference pane buttons (start/stop) are still not working though...

Please do not submit the same bug more than once. An existing bug report already describes this very problem. Even if you feel that your issue is somewhat different, the resolution is likely
to be the same. Because of this, we hope you add your comments to the original bug instead.

Thank you for your interest in MySQL.

Duplicate of bug #28854

Just for reference, Bug#28854 is the MySQL.prefPane not working in Mac OS X 10.5 and bug#25008 is the non working StartupItem.pkg.
