Description:
Calling mysql-test-run.pl under cygwin ends with the following message:
Logging: ./mysql-test-run.pl 1st
Can't exec "c:/Program": No such file of directory at ./mysql-test-run.pl line 1342.
Use of uninitialized value in split at ./mysql-test-run.pl line 1344.
mysql-test-run_ *** ERROR: Could not find version of MySQL.

How to repeat:
execute mysql-test-run.pl 1st under cygwin control.

Thanks for report, please use path without spaces as a workaround. For exampe c:\mysql as you say.

Bug #50742 was marked as duplicate of this one.

I can fix the glob by using a version that allowes spaced but then command line for starting mysqld breaks. I can try to fix *that* by escaping the space with a \ but then something else breaks. And if I espace the space too early, the glob fails.

In short, it's very tricky and error-prone to fix all the different places a path is used in order to allow spaces, in a portable way. I'd be inclined to declare this as "not supported" but mtr should say so.

A patch for this bug has been committed. After review, it may
be pushed to the relevant source trees for release in the next

      Instead, detect the problem and communicate that this is not supported

Please note that the patch does not fix the problem, but lets MTR communicate clearly to the user that paths containing space is not supported.  IMHO trying to fix it will be too risky.

I don't think this warrants a backport to 5.0.

The patch is OK.

Should we want to test that MySQL Server works when run on paths with spaces we can still do that in a particular .test file(or fix so that works...)
