Description:
Hello,

I tried to update my 5.1.20 x64 installation, with 5.1.21 but infact damanged my mysql setup.
Then I removed the mysql server and tried a fresh install, did not work either.

At the moment you start the programm (does not matter if you use the essencials or the full install, you imidiately see something is wrong. The Size of the MySQL installer / config window is only a few centimeter (1,5 inch).

So you do not have the possibility to set any option. But even exepting that bij just clicking the defaults, does not help.

Hi Louis and thanks for another report.

I am sorry but it's not repeatable on my AMD x64 box with fresh install of Vista Ultimate x64... All works as expected on WinXP Pro x64 and Vista Business x32 too (checked independently by two of my colleagues).

I tested with essentials (MySQL server 5.1.21-beta-winx64.msi 28969KB).

One thing I noticed during setup is that when you choose to configure service during install nothing happens (Bug#30823). However, service configuration can be run later and all works as expected (especially in regards of you bug report with writing to my.ini).

Hum, Can't repeat either !

Thanks for testing! Since your results where negative, I retested here again. That was quite simple since I did restore a clean backup (also without MySQL) yesterday.

I did install it "the best way", clean machine, installing from the admin account. It just wend as intended.

So, why did it run smooth now ??? I do not know!! Last time I did this, I think it was an opgrade from 5.1.20. Perhaps I was working from the user account ???
Do not know !!
Only futher difference I can imagine are some very latest windows updates from microsoft (comming very frequent, neccesary as well :>). But it that is related ?, probably not.
Not good that I saw a problem, we can not reproduce.

Perhabs relevant to know. My java version overhere is 6.2 so very latest. That however was also the case last time. And Java 6.2 solved the problem we had with the migration utillity.

Sorry for the inconvenience,

Louis

Louis, no problem. We know these things happen but without repeatable test case we have nothing to work on, right? The important thing is it's OK now. Taken in account that only our SW remained the same I presume there was a problem with user account or Vista.

Tonci,

I personally think, that the biggest difference from last test compaired to the previeus test is the fact, that this time I did a first time MySQL and last time I did un upgrade from the previeus version.

So, I do regret now, that I did not install 5120 first this morning, change some settings, and then tried to upgrade to 5121. But I was in a hurry can not test every thing, and did expect the problem to occur also during an easy first time install.

So, I do not know when the problem does occur. However I am quite sure there is a bug! And I am almost sure it is either within the MySQL installer or the language it is written in. Just not know how to reproduce. I assume somewhere in the installer code, window size is not set under certain circumstances.

I am just wondering what will happen if I upgrade to 5122 :>, we will see by then.

Sincerely,

Louis

Louis, just to be on a safe side, I'll ask build team for consult.
