This DEP error has been reported wiht serveral recent installer for MySQL programs! Also by me with previous Workbench versions. Most often it will succeed in 2nd try, but sometimes I also needed to do tricks like this or to reboot the OS. Such reports started occurring (with OBDC driver, Workbench and possibly more programs) more than a year ago. I am not able to understand the careles/lighthearted attitude about this in MySQL organisation.

Additionally I got the above error (in 2nd try where DEP did not stop the installer running for me this time).

More about all the crap Windows installers that have started coming from MySQL over the last 1-2 years (before that they always worked flawlessly): http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=30693 http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=36120 http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=36440 (this one is same as this report) http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=36493 http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=38073 (and that was only what I have reported!)

I forgot: After clicking OK the 'libtemplate.dll' error msg-box installation continued and program seems to run (but I have no option to check everything in detail)

I have a DEP error on 5.0.27 OSS (Vista Home Premium SP1) that occurs a few seconds after starting the application (while splash screen is still up.) 5.0.24 through .26 worked fine. .27 fails to run at all because of this DEP error and I cannot get Windows to disable it.

Many thanks for reporting this bug. Many thanks Peter for all your work and informations here. Our Vista experts saw DEP failures already on other software. As Peter told a 2nd try and de-install, install all again let the failures disappear. The chance that this is a DEP bug and not a MySQL bug is high. But for deeper analysation we need a core dump/stack trace from the crash.

I am not in doubt that DEP on Vista is problematic/buggy (weird though - I never had any problems on Win XP SP2 that also has DEP!) I will try to get as much info as I can should I encounter this again (what I undoubtledly will!). But I typically install 10+ softwares per week. And I *only* experience such issues with softwares from MySQL! I think *keep it simple* would be the best advice!

I been experiencing the problem of DEP (Data Execution Prevention) stopping MySQL Workbench from starting up on Windows Vista Business for nearly 2 months now (5.0.29). I have fully removed/uninstalled and re-installed and it still has the problem. If someone would kindly tell me how to get Windows Vista Business to write a core dump (and/or other useful debug file) when I launch it, I'll be quite happy to attach it to this ticket.

I see that the current advice is to try again using Workbench 5.1 Firstly, it is your responsibility to do that test given that you can replicate the problem and multiple paying customers have reported that the current versions are unsuable. Secondly, I have been waiting patiently for Workbench 5.1 so I CAN test. When and where is it ?

For instance from the MySQL downloads page! :-) http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/workbench/5.1.html (Peter .. still not a MySQL person!)

Uh ..... not quite. I'm using the SE vesrion of workbench so I've been watching URL https://enterprise.mysql.com/software/gui_tools.php. The OSS version is still beta and I don't have time to test a version I don't plan to use.

oohpooh! :) Not good. IMHO Workbench will never come out of beta!

This is the SE version of bug #41022 I will set this as duplicate of bug #41022. Unfortunately we still don't have a repeatable test here.
