Description:
When I attempt to logon to my localhost MySQL server using Query Browser as root, I receive the following error:

MySQL Error Nr. 1251
Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client

Current Situation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
% I can logon as root using the MySQL Administrator GUI
% I can logon as root using the following on the command line
     $ mysql -u root -p
% This is the current version of Query Browser from MySQL
     ~ mysql-query-browser-1.1.6
% I have attempted to connect using the socket file /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
     ~ however, I think this is the socket file that the server is using and isn't much
        help
% I have now installed the mysql-query-browser-1.1.0-gamma-linux-stripped release and I
    can now use the Query Browser
     ~ the irony is that I have DOWNGRADED my client program and it now works
% OS: Fedora Core 3 (Linux)
% MySQL Version: 4.1.11
Thanks.
How to repeat:
See above - "Current Situation"
Suggested fix:
Perhaps the current release of Query Browser was compiled with the pre-4.1 MySQL modules to use Old Passwords.
Hi,
Can you please try installing 1.1.6 and try again ?  1.1.0 is a rather old version and I wasn't able to reproduce this bug using the latest versions of the software.
Thanks
I had initially thought it was an issue with my firewall configuration.  However, with the firewall disabled, I still cannot use the latest Query Browser (1.1.6).
Jorge,
I now have the Query Browser 1.1.6 re-installed and I am
awaiting your guidance/tests as I was able to reproduce
the bug with the firewall disabled.  I had thought that this
might have caused it as it was causing other problems.
