Moreover, MySQL Server 5.1 is EOL as of Jan 2014 and we suggest you to upgrade it to one of latest GAs(5.6.44, 5.7.26 or 8.0.16). Please download a new version from http://www.mysql.com/downloads/
Once you upgrade EOL'ed MySQL Server version to one of the latest GA then C/J 5.1.47 or 8.0.x should be able to work with both server versions.
