Thank you for the bug report. Please follow the thread of bug http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=6672 as you have mentioned. Additional Info Try to run the server from a DOS prompt screen e.g.: mysqld-nt --defaults-file=path_of_my.ini\my.ini --standalone --console and verify the error showed and try to fix it.

Hi Miguel. Before I got your comment, I had already started this procedure: a) I de-installed MySql b) I removed the whole catalog d:/Program Files/MySQL/ c) I went to My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Environment Variables>System Variables>Path>Edit, and removed "C:\Program files\MySQL\MySQL Server 4.1\bin" from the path. d) I stopped the Windows firewall e) In the Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Services I discovered that the Firewall had not stopped, so I stopped it temporarily. There was also another service running called Server, and to be sure I stopped that one also temporarily. I then run the installation program"mysql-essential-4.1.10-win32.msi" and it reported that it successfully completed all 4 of the final steps. After restarting the Windows Firewall and the "Server" stopped under point e) above, I was still able to run the Server Instance Conf Wizard without problems. I did not change anything in the registry during this process. One question: How do I get the MySQL icon(traffic light) on the task bar? I cannot find the file winmysqladmin.exe.
