Thanks for coming back to me. I've installed 6.3.9, and it still hangs when i try and apply the changes to the stored proc. But when i remove the insert statement it's fine. also when i leave in a few lines of the insert statement, i.e. 4 lines its fine. so I'm putting the crashing down to the fact that I'm trying to insert 60,000 rows of data. so the workaround i found which seems not to cause it to hang is to load the data directly from the spreadsheet using the load statement.
