Thank you for the bug report. I was not able to repeat playing with WorkBench several hours. It reaches 100% CPU while fetching a big data set but when done down about 1 % CPU. Below my system info:

MySQL Workbench Community (GPL) for Mac OS X version 6.3.8 CE build 1228 (64 bit)
Configuration Directory: /Users/miguel/Library/Application Support/MySQL/Workbench
Data Directory: /Applications/MySQLWorkbench.app/Contents/Resources
Cairo Version: 1.10.2
OS: macOS 10.12.x Sierra
CPU: 4x Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz - 16.00GiB RAM

Forgot to mention I connected with a MySQL server 5.5.54 source distribution running on local network OS Windows 10 Pro.
