Description:
When I am adding any new column of data type varchar(1) to my existing data model then I am getting below error:

Could not set new data type
The given data type 
VARCHAR(1)
conatins error and cannot be accepted. Ther previous value is kept instead

However when I am creating a new data model, I am able to add this data type.
Can you please suggest as what could be cause of this error?

How to repeat:
This is happening with existing data model.
Let me know as how I can share my data model  with you to replicate
