Description:
Attempting to test a new connection (not created by clicking on new) causes the workbench to crash

How to repeat:
To reproduce

open workbench
database > manage connections
do NOT click on 'New'
enter connection name
enter host and port
enter user name
click on 'Test connection'

=>> "MySQL workbench has stopped working"

Suggested fix:
Workaround is to always create a new connection first

Fixed as of the upcoming MySQL Workbench 6.3.7 release, and here's the changelog entry:

Attempting to test custom connection details (a connection not yet created
by Workbench) caused Workbench to fail and exit. The Test Connection
functionality only functioned for existing or new connections.
