Description:
Fatal error: The slave I/O thread stops because a fatal error is encountered when it tries to get the value of SERVER_UUID variable from master

How to repeat:
Establish Replication between 5.7.9 (slave) and a 5.5.22 (master). The error displays as soon as the slave connects. Have not been able to find a workaround.

Following the 1193 fatal error, Slave I/O thread exiting for channel, read up to binary log (starting position).

I have received this status on two separate environments so consider it to be a bug.
