Description:
1. Initial issue was that the MySQL Connector did not list in Visual Studio's 2015 drop down list for creating a database connection.

2. What I did
   a. Uninstalled both Visual Studio 2015 Professional & all components of MySQL.
   b. Installed VS 2015 successfully
   c. Attempted to install MySQL with mysql-installer-commercial-5.6.26.0.msi

3. What I wanted to have happen
   a. All MySQL 5.6 components installed
   b. MySQL Visual Studio 1.2.4
   c. The MySQL data connector listed in VS 2015 so I can create a database connection to my MySQL database.

4. What actually happened
   a. I could not get rid of MySQL VS 1.2.3 and install 1.2.4.
   b. Reinstalled MySQL 5.6 and VS 1.2.3
   c. I still don't see the MySQL listed in the drop down in VS 2015.
   d. I read in the release notes 1.2.4 was for VS 2015 so I assume this would fix my original issue.
   c. more details in the "How to repeat" section.

How to repeat:
1. I decided to uninstall both Visual Studio 2015 & all components of MySQL and start fresh. I uninstalled VS2015 1st then attempted to uninstall MySQL.
   a. Hit first issue: MySQL Visual Studio 1.2.3 would not uninstall from Installer or Windows program uninstall. I had to use a 3rd party tool called Advanced Uninstaller Pro. The 3rd party tool I think removed it.

2. With both Visual Studio & MySQL gone I attempted to reintall all.
   a. Successfully loaded Visual Studio 2015
   b. Attempted to load MySQL: MySQL Installer 5.6.26.0 (1.4.8.1) V77272-01.zip -> mysql-installer-commercial-5.6.26.0.msi
      1. Issue: It loaded MySQL Visual Studio 1.2.3 NOT 1.2.4
      2. I attempted to load 1.2.4 with the mysql-for-visualstudio-1.2.4.msi. This failed.
      3. I attempted to use the 5.6.26.26.0.msi installer to uninstall MySQL VS 1.2.3. It failed.
      4. I uninstalled Visual Studio 2015 and again attempted to uninstall MySQL VS 1.2.3. It failed.

3. I started all over again (through step 2.a described above).
4. With both Visual Studio & MySQL gone I attempted to reinstall all.
   a. Successfully loaded Visual Studio 2015
   b. Attempted to load just MySQL Visual Studio 1.2.4: mysql-for-visualstudio-1.2.4.msi. This failed.

5. I'm stumped. Please help I'm at a stand still.

All MySQL components were X64 when provided.

Read this blog today. This works to get me past the installer. I guess the other third-party uninstaller I used didn't work as well as Revo.

Hi,

I think the installation program left something in the registry, so at the end of the uninstall, there is a roll back.

As a sollution to this problem, I've used Revo uninstaller and delete all related keys in the registry and also all the location of files used by the program. So that there was nothing left anymore. After that i could install version 1.2.4 withou any problem, but using the msi file and not the installer.

My problem is solved, but not the real problem in the installation program. On the internet I found the same problems registered on various versions of MySQL Visual studio support.

Hi Steven,

Thank you for using MySQL and for your time reporting these problems.

It seems that you solved the first issue you mentioned (inability to install
version 1.2.4) by removing the installation using a 3rd party tool. Is that
correct?

If that is the case, we want to confirm the root cause of that problem was
actually the issue with uninstalling a previous MySQL for Visual Studio
Version. We already have an existing bug about that:
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=71226.

You can susbscribe to it to be notified when it is fixed.

Please bear in mind that a bug report should contain only a single issue, not
a group of them. That information can be found at the following link:
https://bugs.mysql.com/how-to-report.php

Best regards.

Yes. My first issue is resolved. My 2nd issue is resolved when MySQL Visual studio 1.2.4 was able to install. I see MySQl connector in VS list. I will watch for a fix.

Thanks!
