Description:
The result grid was visible and working perfectly but suddenly disappeared, now the window looks like how it is shown in the first screenshot on this page 
(https://dev.mysql.com/doc/workbench/en/wb-sql-editor.html) instead of this window with the result grid (https://dev.mysql.com/doc/workbench/en/wb-develop-sql-editor-results.html) 

How to fix?
A reinstall of workbench and an upgrade to the latest beta didn't help

How to repeat:
Not sure, I don't have any clue why this happend and how the original window can be restored.

Problem solved, not a bug
