Description:
I have a need to run DBMGUI on an IBM pSeries AIX X-Window console, as I have experienced problems with network disconnections during backups and restores with the MS Windows version. The backup/restore windows close if a communication error (-4) occurs and there isn't an automatic or manual re-connect procedure.

How to repeat:
break the network connection!

Hi,

sorry for this delayed answer. The default settings of the bugs search page have hidden your bug report from me.

We will not write a Java version of the DBMGUI. If you have problems with the DBMGUI, you should swith to the WebDBM. The functions provided by the WebDBM are almost the same. Alternatively your can use the Database Manager command line tool dbmcli. A Unix compatible replacement for the DBMGUI is on our long-term TODO but it's not on the horizon yet.

However, I doubt that the replacement will do much better. You seem to have some networking problems between the Database Manager and the Xserver communication component. -4 is a "general purpose" message. It does not tell me more but that the network connection is gone. Please check the logfiles for hints. Are there any further hints in the xserver.prt and the kndiag files?

Best regards,
Ulf Wendel
