Your experience isn't repeatable on my side I could do dozens of alter table without get the crash so I supposed a table involving names with language different than English.

I think I have found out the issue, it happen with MAMP/MAMP pro v3.0

if I set the "Default Apache port fro http connections" to port 80, then when I use MySQL Workbench to "alert table" or "select 1000 rows", it will crash.

if I set the port to [8888], then it have no problem at all.

if I set the "Default Apache port fro http connections" to port [8888].

The first time I right click the table choose "Select Rows 1000" or "Alter Table", it will CRASH

BUT if I just type and excel any command like "select * from users", then next time I right click the table choose "Select Rows 1000" or "Alter Table", it will OK
