Description:
The .ZIP packages for MySQL Server 5.6 seem to have greatly increased in size as of 5.6.20. From dev.mysql.com packages:

Type 5.6.19 Size 5.6.20 Size
x86 ZIP 212.3M 337.6M
x86_64 ZIP 217.2M 342.9M

Initial investigation suggests the increased file size is attributable to tripling of the size of each of lib/debugmysqlserver.lib and libmysqlserver.lib.

Similar ZIP file inflation can be seen in 5.5.39 (vs. 5.5.38). There may be similar file size inflation for .MSI packages, but the file sizes are much smaller, generally.

No observed significant file size change for other platforms.

How to repeat:
Visit http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.6.html, compare file sizes to previous releases.

Suggested fix:
Identify (and likely fix) problems causing larger file sizes.
