Description:
I continue from here:

The MySQL Installer does not have its own versionng s far as can see? It is an 'envelope' for what servers and clients it can install - but not an individual application. However this is inconsistent *since it installs on the system*.

And this may very well be one of the underlying reasons for all the problems that it has.

Here is the background/experiences for my considerations:

I built a brandnew workstation system 3 weeks ago (8 cores 3.5 ghz, 32 GB RAM, quality SSD storage. Forgive me for bladdering :-) ).

With the MySQL Installer 5.6.19 I installed MySQL server 5.6.19, Workbench, the ODBC driver for MySQL , MySQL Utilities and MySQL Notifier. Next I installed MySQL 5.7.4 with the MySQL Installer package version 5.7.4.

So the MySQL Installer installed twice on this system. However I have only one MySQL Installer installed on the system. And it does not identify itself with a version at all - not even in Control Panel .. Programs.

This leaves me somewhat uncertain if the "MySQL Installer" is the same when bundled with MySQL 5.6.19 and 5.7.4 servers (however it would make little sense to me if it is not).

How to repeat:
See above.

Suggested fix:
The MySQL Installer should be versioned independently of what server version it is bundled/distributed with. And it should be able to upgrade itself based on version check.

How can you live with a program that does not have version control (or even a versioning) at all?

How can we check if the MySQL Installer we have installed is up-to-date?

Thank you for the bug report. Regarding the Installer itself upgrade please see
prior attached picture. Thanks.

OK .. the installer will update itself (at least in this particular case). So far so good!

But the logic it uses is hidden for user.

Fixed as of the upcoming MySQL Installer 1.4.0 release, and here's the changelog entry:

Clicking "?" on the dashboard now displays the MySQL Installer version number.

Thank you for the bug report.
