Probably a duplicate of: Bug #21553 RFE: CREATE TRIGGER ... SELECT ON ... Note that in MySQL 5.7 with the Rewriter plugin similar functionality is available. I don't think the Rewriter plugin allows multiple statements, but it could call a stored procedure which does that. It might be hard to get the Rewriter plugin to intercept all SELECT queries on a table. So this might solve the issue for some cases, but not for all cases so this RFE is still needed. Together with this RFE it might make more sense: Bug #16525 INSTEAD OF triggers
