Description:
I'm at a point where there are some product needing update. There should be at least one of those.
While going for updating any (or even none) of those, the installer finds that a newer version of the installer itself is available.
When choosing to download and update that, the download process basically starts and stops straight away, showing a dialog message about an error during download.

This happens if I start from the Installer currently already available on my machine, the one at "C:\Program Files (x86)\MySQL\MySQL Installer" having version "1.3.4.0" in "File properties\Details tab".
The same happens if I start from the latest installer-web, just downloaded from your website.

How to repeat:
1) Download mysql-installer-web-community-5.6.15.0.msi from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/windows/installer/
2) Execute MSI file
3) Wait until "Update Products" window appears
4) Select "Install updates" and wait for "Apply updates" screen
5) Select all, any or no product to update, it does not really matter
6) Press "Execute" and wait for the dialog titled "Update?" with message "There is an update available to the MySQL Installer. Do you want to download and install it now?"
7) Choose "Yes"
8) A dialog shows up with message "There was an error downloading the update. Please contact support."
9) Press "Ok". The "Apply Updates" screen shows back again.

I am using Windows 8.1 and have installed a previous version of mysql installer. When I tried to download it using the functionality of the mysql installer, the dowload window is shown, but no download happens.
When I download the new installer manually as MSI (Web Version or Non Web Version) the installation of the new version fails with the message "Failed to find node //Product Code..." (see files).

When I uninstall the previous version of the MySQL intaller and than install the newer version, the installation via MSI file is successful.
