Description:
Visual Studio 2010
Windows 8.1 64 Bit
MySQL 5.6.15
Connector Net 6.7.4

When adding a new connection via the server explorer, the dialog appears correctly however the instant text is typed or pasted into one of the text boxes, the dialog crashes, causing Visual Studio to close / crash.

On my Windows 7 64 Bit computer with Net Connector 6.6.5 the dialog box closes instantly when you type in the boxes but Visual Studio does not crash

I have used the MySQL Installer 5.6.15
I have run Check for updates

How to repeat:
1. Open Server Explorer
2. Right Click Dataconnections and Click "Add Connection..."
3. In the dialog that appears select "MySQL Database"
4. Click "Continue"
5. In the "Add Connection" Dialog that appears, typing or pasting any text in any text box with make the dialog close and visual studio closes / crashes.

I am not sure what was causing the problem, I had used the MySQL web installer when I upgraded to Windows 8.1, but there must have been a problem due to the upgrade to 8.1 from 8.

I have eventually uninstalled MySQL completely and then reinstalled after rebooting the computer and that has solved the problem

Thank you for the bug report. So the issue isn't more repeatable?. Thanks.

Thank you for the reply. Probably not repeatable. I was on Windows 8 and ran their upgrade to 8.1 and that did cause several problems with programs that then needed to be re-installed. MySQL seemed to be OK other than with Visual Studio. In the end the solution was to completely uninstall MySQL and reinstall. Checking for updates and repair did not solve the problem

Hi David,

You need to install the MySQL for Visual Studio product in order to have the Visual Studio integration with MySQL databases. This product is new and from Connector/Net 6.7 is a separated product. If you want to work with Connector/Net
6.7.4 you need to install the MySQL for VS 1.0.3 besides Connector/Net.

MySQL for VS can be installed only through the Windows Installer that you can download here:
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/windows/installer/

Please let us know if this works for you.

Thank you for the reply

I uninstalled and reinstalled MySQL and that solved the problem

This was not reproducible thus not a bug.
