Description:
Filing under "Installing" category as I couldn't find a better fit ...

When downloading from dev.mysql.com while not being logged in I can choose between "Log in" and the less obvious "No thanks, just take me to the downloads" options.

When logged in (e.g. as I was commenting on bugs.mysql.com) I end up on a page telling me "To download, some additional information is required" followed by some mandatory survey questions, without any "No thanks, just take me to the downloads" option.

So as a logged-in user I'm actually treated *worse* than an anonymous downloader?

PS: Extra fun points for being able to download only slightly older release files from the download archive just fine while being logged in ...

How to repeat:
Log in on dev.mysql.com or bugs.mysql.com, then try to download stuff ...

The extra survey questions are probably being asked for only once, and may also be part of the registration process by now, so this may only affect older existing accounts when new mandatory survey questions are added.

Questions I'm currently getting are:

What is Your Intended Primary Use of MySQL *
Industry *
Job Function *
No of Employees *
Contact me to discuss MySQL commercial products and services (choose all that apply)

plus an extra captcha ...

Hi Hartmut!

This is a 1-time Survey with 5 questions. It is only asked the first time logged-in users are Downloading Software or White Papers.

To skip the Survey, do not login and choose "No thanks, just start my download." You do not need to login to download software.

Best Regards,

Matt

I know that "No thanks ..." is available, the thing is that it is not "Don't log in" for me but "Log out first" as I'm logged in via bugs most of the time.

First time I stumbled across this I wasn't aware of this being tied to the "already logged in on some *.mysql.com site" state though, and at that point it was a big "OMG now they've removed the 'No thanks' option, too" WTF moment ...

Also this doesn't affect all downloads as archive downloads are still working just fine without those survey questions in between.

All in all a very inconsistent experience ... and hard to believe that it is really intentional ...
