Have you checked if in the OS upgrade the original my.cnf was rewritten? .

here is it' content # # The MySQL database server configuration file. # # You can copy this to one of: # - "/etc/mysql/my.cnf" to set global options, # - "~/.my.cnf" to set user-specific options. # # One can use all long options that the program supports. # Run program with --help to get a list of available options and with # --print-defaults to see which it would actually understand and use. # # For explanations see # http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/server-system-variables.html # This will be passed to all mysql clients # It has been reported that passwords should be enclosed with ticks/quotes # escpecially if they contain "#" chars... # Remember to edit /etc/mysql/debian.cnf when changing the socket location. Thank you for the feedback. But we need MySQL Server error log. It is specified as /var/log/mysql/error.log in your configuration file.

Thank you for the feedback. Look your err file sounds an OS upgrade issue than a MySQL bug, please check for multiples servers instances alos for multiples my.cnf configuration files. Thanks.

I only had one my.cnf file and once again purged Mysql and reinstalled and have come back to the same error SQLSTATE[HY000] [1524] Plugin 'none' is not loaded. What is plugin none and where is it loaded from? I ran netstat -tap | grep mysql and only one is shown. what do I do next?

Please check your err log file about InnoDB messages you have installed 5.5 server over a 5.1.69 install.
