Description:
This problem seems to have been reported before, back in 2006, and was eventually closed but does not seem to have been fixed.

This was the original bug:
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=23071&thanks=3&notify=67

I am using Visual Studio 2010 Premium to do some ASP.NET development. I installed the Connector/Net 6.6.5 and tried to add my database using the Add Connection option in the Server Explorer. Whenever I type on any of the fields it closes. From the comments on the previous bug report, there is a message that says it was patched long ago, but from the comments it seems that people continue to have this problem.

How to repeat:
To reproduce:
1. Start Visual Studio 2010
2. Open Server Explorer
3. Right Click Data Connections, select the "Add Connection" option
4. Select "MySQL Database" and the .NET framework provider for mySQL for the data provider and then continue
5. Type something in any of the text boxes and it closes

Suggested fix:
None, supposedly patched already.

Hi,

This is difficult to reproduce, meanwhile, we are looking for a workaround...

Can you check if the tag DbProviderFactories and its contents is well formed (all tags closed), its inside machine.config file, inside tag system.data.
