Description:
When I boot up Excel 2013 on Windows 8 Pro, MySQL for Excel loads, as the button is visible on the Data tab of the ribbon.

If the button is clicked, it darkens as it should when selected, but the sidebar does not reveal in from the right.

(NB once a workbook is opened, if I then unload and load the COM Add-in, the functionality works as expected, but I have to do this for every workbook I want to use with MySQL for Excel.)

How to repeat:
Open Excel 2013
Open a blank workbook (if you have the startup screen enabled)
Click data tab in the ribbon
Click MySQL for Excel

Suggested fix:
This is a workaround:

Click ribbon Developer tab > COM Add-ins
Untick MySQL.ForExcel
Click OK
Click Developer tab > COM Add-ins
Tick MySQL.ForExcel
Click OK
Click ribbon Data tab
Click MySQL for Excel button and it works.

Clicking button selects button, but no sidebar

After disabling and enabling add-in, the button and sidebar work as expected.

Could reproduce the problem by opening more than 1 file in Excel which opens a new Excel window, the Add-In is present in only 1 of the Excel windows but not in all of them as in Excel 2007 and Excel 2010.

Fixed as of MySQL for Excel 1.1.2, and here's the changelog entry:

In Microsoft Excel 2013, opening more than one file in Excel that opens a
new Excel window, the MySQL for Excel plugin was present in only one of
the Excel windows, and not in all of them as it is in Microsoft Excel 2007
/ 2010.

Thank you for the bug report.

And added another entry for:

Behavior of the MySQL for Excel toggle button was changed.
Instead of just showing or hiding the plugin, it now opens and
        closes it.

I am having the same problem on an HP laptop, but I am not having the problem on my PC. Both are running Windows 8.1 On the laptop, when I click on the MySQL for Excel button, it spins but never brings up the sidebar. Workbench works fine and makes a connection the database, which is on a third party machine. I cannot make a connection using the Excel connection menu; says rejected by server or server not exist.
