Description:
Using MySQL Installer 5.6.10
the installation fails with

mysql-server-5.6-winx64:37 - Configured service.
mysql-server-5.6-winx64:43 - Attempting to start service.
mysql-server-5.6-winx64:100 - Unable to configure service.

How to repeat:
I tried several times under both mentioned operating systems, also after completely removing version 5.5.

Suggested fix:
I finally found a solution by Bruno Ribeiro in the net on http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=64177
Although this was found for V5.5 it equally works for 5.6.

Quite generally I think that particular for a newcomer it is repellent to meet a non-working installation, so much more as there is not the least hint what to do next in case of error.

For this particular error I think the simplest way would be to give a choice to the user of how to log on, Local System Account or not.

P.S.:
Thank you very much for developing and providing MySQL.

I am sorry that your initial experience with MySQL 5.6 was not as good as expected.

I will ask the team responsible for the Windows installer to take a look at this. Hopefully the workaround will provide a clue to what is going on.

The Windows Installer team informs me that as of 2013-02-15, there is a new version of the Windows Installer package available (5.6.10.1). A number of problems have been fixed here, so please give that a try.

The advice is to start with a clean install: start MySQL Installer and remove all 5.6 products + check to clean the MySQL data + the MySQL Installer itself.

Thank you Erlend. The new installer works flawless.
Thank you also for the instruction.

All the best
Jörg
