Description:
Hello,

Installed Workbench version 5.2.46 CE and completed import of all servers to be managed. They're a mix of instances running primarily on CentOS and a few on Windows Server 2008.

I began by adding "New Connection"s and am successfully able to login to each of the 80 or so servers (dev etc...).

I then attempt to create new server instances based on the existing connections previously created. Tried "New Server Instance" and used the "Take Parameters from..." option with the specified server.

Testing the database returns the correct version and OS. Select "Do not use remote management" and leave the server instance name as is and click Finish.

Attempt to connect to the "Server Administration" and a "Opening MySQL Workbench" message appears for about 3 seconds then disappears while the working cursor continues... the title changes to "MySQL Workbench (Not Responding)", clicking the workbench then brings up a black screen with name HUDForm and occasionally it will also show (Not Responding).

I attempted creating connections in multiple ways and always the same situation. I then tried a separate server and this time it would go through no problem. As far as I can tell, 1 in 6 or so connections work, while the rest don't.

I checked to be sure the ports are fine (the SQL Editor works fine), compared number of non-alphanumeric characters (three or four "-" may appear in the names, no discernible pattern) and made sure length and group name didn't have anything to do with it and so far they don't. Crashes/hangs occur regularly.

Am I missing something? I did not install over an older version. I first uninstalled the old version, deleted any left-overs from the install directory then I reran the msi installer.

Thanks,

Vic

How to repeat:
1. Start Workbench
2. Add new connection with appropriate parameters (save password, etc...)
3. Login to connection and dbl-check the SQL Editor is properly connected, successful
4. Click New Server Instance Under Server Administration
5. Use "Take Parameters ..." option and select the desired connection
6. Make sure the Testing the Database Connection reports "... tested successfully."
7. Select Do not use remote management (no ssh or native windows)
8. Set Server instance name to something appropriate
9. Attempt to login to admin by dbl-clicking
10. Wahtch the "Opening MySQL Workbench Administrator" sit there for a while and finally hang...

Suggested fix:
No idea how

Can you try the latest 6.0 version?

Hello,

I received an email a few weeks ago to try out version 6 and it seems to have fixed this specific issue! I'm running "Build 6.0.2.10924" currently.

I will go ahead and close this ticket.

Thank you!
