I installed first MySQL Server 5.5.27 and then Workbench on Windows 8 64-bit and I am able to query the server.

Cutting and pasting from the clipboard works, but it's very funky because you can't see what you're doing.

I have the exact same problem.

What I tried:

1. Full reinstall
2. Reinstall all fonts used by the editor
3. Changing to use LUA

Everything works fine, including creating and altering tables, but I just can't see what I'm doing using the console.

This is an ENORMOUS pain.

Tried again running under compatibility mode for Win 7 and Compatibility mode for WinXP (am running Windows 8), but no luck. Microsoft simply says MySQL Workbench "isn't compatible" with Windows 8. Should have done a dual boot ;(

P.S. For anyone else having this issue, you can download "Toad for mySQL" for free. It is working fine on Windows 8 and I will use it instead of mySQL Workbench.

HI,

I have the same issue. Any insight in this getting resolved. I am using version 5.2.44 CE Revision 9933

I have had some success going back to an earlier version (5.33) however I seem to get intermittent problems where it is impossible to edit a record as for no apparent reason the table is displayed as Read Only.
Closing the program and opening again and blind persistence seem to get around this, but it really is getting irritating that no fix/explanation exists yet that allows us to use the latest version with Windows 8.
We have noticed here that if you install 5.2.44 on a new factory installed Windows 8 system it works. However my machine was upgraded from Windows 7, so it maybe that the upgrade is doing something to the registry. I have tried repeated uninstalls and installed various versions but no good.
I am now going to uninstall and delete the folder in case there is something left behind... It means installing all my connections again though.

Change the font in Prefereces / Appearence / Editor to Courier and it works
