Is this a fresh installation or you had some older MySQL 5.x.y installed on this box and upgraded?

This is a fresh install. I have never used MySQL before. I am trying to setup a WordPress dev box for myself.

I guess the install just needed the fear of an expert looking at it. I cleaned out everything and started a new install, and this time it went like a charm. Thank you for your help. Please close out this bug.
