I have the same problem. All of the other components install fine. I am installing on Local drive C and I am running on an HP.

After searching my reg file, I found HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall was set to \Hewlett-Packard\\ which is the directory/site the install was searching for. Changing that key to the correct install location solved the problem, but I do not know where the key came from or if it is some HP crap that came on the machine.

Description: Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1, 8 gig ram and 1 TB drive. Downloaded mysql-installer-community-5.5.27.2.msi, and attempted to install sql server. Proceeds for about 3 seconds then I get Status: Install error.
