Description:
The configuration in MySQL Installer for the server fails. At least under Windows 7 Home Premium. It seems that the selection of "Run Service as..." -> "Standard System Account" doesn't select "LocalSystem", but rather the Network service which doesn not work. Trying to select any custom user, the installer keeps the "Next" button deactivated. Please note that mysql-installer-5.5.25.0.msi worked fine.

How to repeat:
Start mysql-installer-community-5.5.25a.1.msi, select custom, choose only the Server and the Workbench. After installation, in the configuration, keep all defaults. Trying to execute results in the above error message.

Suggested fix:
Use LocalSystem as the standard account

Today (2012-08-03), the new version of the Installer was released (5.5.27). I checked again, but the bug is still there. So I updated the version of the bug report to 5.5.27 as well.

I don't understand why user 'network services' should not work. Actually MariaDB uses that user and it works fine for me with all (MariaDB) versions. And actually 'network services' user is more secure than 'local system' for a service allowing access from remote machines.

But if there is a change here within a majaor branch or if the 'standalone' installer uses one user and the 'integrated installer' another we have a serious problem. This could be the underlying problem for http://www.webyog.com/blog/2012/05/10/circus-oraclimus-installatus-upgradimus/ and http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=56889. Since I used the 'integrated installer' (*ONLY*) once I have the most horrible problems when upgrading MySQL 5.5.

The installers should be compatible of course - and with all installers released in the same major branch.

Hello Erik Reischl,

Thank you for the bug report.
I tried with latest MySQL Installer, and attempted to install server and WB as well and it worked without any issues.
Probably this is fixed, please feel free to reopen this bug report if you encounter this issue again.

Thanks,
Chiranjeevi.
