Description:
When installing MySQL 4.1 on Windows XP (Servicepack 2 installed)
the service doesn't start without special message except can't start the service.
The same problem with installation of Windows Essentials or normal Windows.
I have to reinstall version 4.0

How to repeat:
Desinstallation of MySQL 4.0 or 4.1 and installation of version 4.1.

I was able for to install on my XP box. Then please verify on your
service manager the service name and try to start from there
or using the command prompt issue:

net start mysql

or

net start custom_service_name

and say for us the message error showed.

thanks in advance.

I have , of course, try it. But the service was created with a wrong instruction in it. This was the raison why I indicate that there is a bug in the installation procedure. The installation procedure stopped after trying to create and start the service. I don't remember what it was but it was in the service startup instruction.
Thus manually it was also not possible to start the service.
I have reinstalled the 4.0 version because I need to continue working with MySQL. I have already desinstall version 4.0 and install version 4.1 3 times.
I am awaiting a new version or a solution before trying it again.
