Your MS office/Access is a 32 bit application, I think? Did you create a 'system DSN' or a 'user DSN'? Only a 'user DSN' will work in such 'mixed bit stack' environment. Peter (not a MySQL person)

I experienced same issue. Backed it down to 5.1.8 and all is good.
