Description:
hi i have installed mysql 5.1 in my machine. but at the configuration state it asks me the current root password and the new password and confirm password! I have installing Mysql for the first time but how could i know the current root password! after the "write configuaration file" step the program hangs! i was working with this bug for nearly one week! i couldnt recover it! pls do help in this im a newbie

What exact version, 5.1.x, are you installing? Please, specify the exact options selected/entered at each installation step. Are you 100% sure you had never had MySQL installed on this system?

It is asking me for the current root password also,
using mysql-installer-community-5.5.28.2 to install
MySQL.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you for the feedback.

I assume you use Windows and Configuration Wizard. This is not a problem that it asks for password: simply leave password field blank or unset checkbox "Secure my installation".
