Description:
I am running Mac OSX 10.5.8 with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. I downloaded and successfully installed the mysql-5.5.16-osx10.5-x86_64.pkg and MySQLStartupItem.pkg but when I click on the MySQL in the Preferences Pane, I get an error message that reads "Preferences Error: You cannot open MySQL preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac." I am totally new to all of this and am not a programmer, so simple instructions that would help me are sincerely appreciated. If I have installed the wrong thing, do I have to uninstall this one first, and if so how? Thank you so much for any help.

How to repeat:
Download and install the mysql-5.5.16-osx10.5-x86_64 on mac osx10.5.8. After installing everything go to the Preferences Pane and click on the MySQL icon and you'll get the error message.

Please, check if the same problem still happens with a newer version, 5.5.17. Maybe it was just packaging mistake...

I did try 5.5.17 and get the same error message. Please advise, thank you so much!

Verified just as described with 5.5.17 on Mac OS X 10.5.6.

It used to work in the past, so we have a regression bug here...

I'm sorry, not sure what your last comment means. Will you let me know when this is working and/or what I should do now? Thank you so much.

Just had the same problem with mySQL 5.5.20 (mysql-5.5.20-osx10.5-x86_64.dmg).

I downloaded from Argonne National Laboratory / Chicago, IL via FTP (verified md5).

My Mac is running OSX 10.5.8, and has 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (64bit).

Mac OS X packaging was thoroughly revised for MySQL 5.6 upwards, so closing this as Obsolete.
