What exact server version, x.y.z, you tried to connect to?

Sorry for the delay...have been traveling... 5.0.75-0ubuntu10.5 is the MySQL server version I'm trying to connect to. Just tried it with the Workbench 5.2.35 release and got the same error. Will try it with a newer version of MySQL server as soon as I can set it up and will let you know if it gives the same error. Thanks

Received the same error with 5.5.16 MySQL Community Server (GPL) installed from the rpm from the MySQL download site. (Also updated the Bug report version and severity fields since I'm now using the GA release).

Finally figured out what is really going on. Had 'Show Live Schema Overview' unchecked in the SQL Editor preferences. If that is checked, it appears to work fine. (Since there is an easy work-around, I'm changed the Severity back to non-critical)

Verified just as described on 32-bit Windows XP, having 'Show Live Schema Overview' unchecked.

Fixed as of 5.2.36: On Microsoft Windows, and with the "Show Live Schema Overview" preference disabled, Workbench would emit an error while attempting to open a "Database Connection"
