Description:
MYSQL Workbench running under Windows 7 Ultimate with the screen size set to 1024x768 does not adjust the GUI layout to accomodate the screen size. Some critical buttons do not appear on the screen and there is no way to get them onscreen. If you are not familiar that the buttons should be three you can spend hours troubleshooting this. The only solution seems to be to reset your screen size to something more dense like 1280x1024. That's a bad size for those not able to see with a young man's eyes!!!!!

How to repeat:
Bring up Workbench under Windows Ultimate 7 with a screen size set to 1024x768. Try to add a user with some privileges. You cannot.

Suggested fix:
Fix the GUI and do some more serious testing

You should go to "users and Privileges" ant then click on a user and then click on a schema privileges folder. The add entry button is off screen and cannot be brought onscreen without adjusting the screen resolution

Could you please provide a screen-shot showing the issue?. Thanks.

Screen shot of workbench at 1024x768 resolution with add entry button off the screen and window not scrollable or resizeable

Screen Shot now attached.

The window cannot be re-sized nor can it be scrolled. You can see that a partial "delete" button is visible and that the "add entry" button is not visible at all. Of course when you first use this screen you do not know that it is even there. The only clue is the partially obscured "delete" button.

Good luck. If there is anything else you need from me I am happy to try and oblige.

Regards,
Rob

This seems to happen only in Windows, as you can see from these side by side screenshots (left: Ubuntu 11.04, right: Windows 7)

Sergio:

On your "windows" screen the add entry button is only partially obscured. On mine you will see in the screen shot it is totally obscured.

That represents a much bigger problem, since with the button totally obscured you cannot add an entry. Hence the severity of the issue

I assume that your plan is still to fix this?

Rob

I am surprised that it is taking over three months to fix such a show stopper issue.

Same problem under Linux. Using latest Linux Mint on a small laptop with 1024x700 max resolution. There is no way to access the buttons at the bottom of a particular window within MySQL Workbench. The workbench is totally unusable on smaller screen computers.

Using the new version 6. Same problem with the new table window. I haven't used it a lot lately and was trying to add a table and could not find any way to save or apply it until, after spending a good 15 minutes poring over docs, I noticed there is supposed to be an "Apply" button, but my measly 1366x768 resolution screen simply didn't have room to show it. No scrollbars to get it in view. Nothing.

I finally moved the window upwards halfway off my screen, resized the bottom of the window downwards until it came in to view, clicked it, and moved everything back.

Come on devs, not everyone runs 1920x1080 and up. Can we at least add a scrollbar?

I should note, though I suspect this bug exists on all OSs, that I'm running Kubuntu 14.04.

OK, this is crazy, but after I moved the window and sized it bigger than my screen like I explained above, then maximized it to make it fit back down to my screen size, it has suddenly taken to sizing its controls to fit. Now I can see all the buttons, even at the same size I couldn't before.
